CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MICH. – May 23, 2022 – Lakeland Fresh Farms, a local producer of hydroponically grown greens, announced today the launch of two new products – Pure Romaine and Crisp ‘N Clean leaf lettuce. The crops are now part of Lakeland Fresh Farms’ suite of products gracing the produce section of local grocers, the tabletops of fine dining restaurants, and the inventories of local wholesale distributors.

“Being able to expand our business and mission to provide Southeast Michiganders safely grown and fresh, local produce is affirming as a small business owner,” said Joe Corace, President and CEO of Lakeland Fresh Farms. “Our partnerships with stores, restaurants, and wholesale distributors will enable us to better serve the community with high-quality greens while also creating opportunities for agricultural careers in Southeastern Michigan. Today we are celebrating those partnerships as well as the launch of two new products.”

All Lakeland products are non-GMO and hydroponically grown without chemical pesticides or herbicides, so there’s no chemical run-off or contamination of Macomb County’s freshwater lakes and rivers. Lakeland’s process employs hundreds of LED grow lights and a computer controlled indoor weather system that uses 90% less water than open field growing and allows for hands free automation, which eliminates the risk of bacterial contamination.

Thanks to Lakeland Fresh Farms’ state-of-the-art indoor agricultural facility in Chesterfield Township, Mich., the farmers are able to harvest leafy greens in just 18 days using hydroponic farming and a controlled environment. Normally, lettuce takes three months to grow on an outdoor farm using soil. Lakeland hopes to continue growing its product line by adding more herbs and green mixes in the near future.

“Our quality products are loved by chefs and consumers alike,” said Corace. “I invite shoppers to taste the difference with Lakeland’s products. I believe that when you practice business ethically and sustainably that it will foster growth and profitability in the best way, while creating benefits for your community and surrounding ecosystem too.”

Lakeland’s mission is to sustainably grow the safest, freshest, and tastiest produce year-round, utilizing environmentally and socially responsible business practices.
